What is the Over Stars modpack?
Over Stars (also spelled "Overstars") is a Tech-RPG modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 on Forge: you push technology through five eras, from steampunk to sci-fi, while working through a story campaign with more than 1,000 quests. It's made by NitroRiced – the author behind Immersed With Shaders – and has picked up hundreds of thousands of downloads on CurseForge.
It isn't a kitchen-sink pack. The author hand-picked just over 300 mods (the current v5.14 ships 383 mod files) and tied them together with custom recipes and a main questline that leads all the way to a proper endgame. You can play it solo or on a server with friends.

There's no Bedrock version – phones and consoles can't play Over Stars.
What do you do in Over Stars?
The backbone of the pack is a five-era tech progression – steampunk, advanced steampunk, engineering, space and sci-fi – locked to the four chapters of the main campaign. On top of that sit RPG quests, magic and tougher combat.
Tech: from Create to space travel
Each era leans on a well-known mod: Create for the early steampunk machinery, Immersive Engineering for the engineering stage, Ad Astra for rockets and other planets, and Mekanism for high-end tech. Because progression is tied to quests, you always know what to build next instead of digging through JEI.
Campaign, villager quests and a skill tree
- 1,000+ quests – the main story, optional side quests and dungeon-style scroll quests.
- Villager quest givers – a new Quest Master profession sells Quest Scrolls, and quests reward tokens (the pack uses the author's own Quest Token API mod).
- Player skill tree – unlocked through scroll quests and opened with K.
Worlds, planets and bosses
- 5 new planets and 1 new dimension, plus an overhauled Overworld, Nether and End with 80+ new biomes.
- A dozen-plus new bosses, and the vanilla bosses hit harder.
- Scaling world difficulty – it goes up when you enter new dimensions and again after you kill the Ender Dragon.
- Reworked villages, strongholds and structures, new mobs and animals, and a farming and butchery system.
Magic and combat
Magic comes from Iron's Spells 'n Spellbooks and Ars Nouveau. Combat is overhauled with new weapons and a dodge roll (R). One nice touch: a hit that would one-shot you leaves you on half a heart instead.
Quality of life
Gravestones that hold your items where you died, Nature's Compass for finding biomes, an Enchanting Infuser that lets you choose enchantments, right-click harvesting, built-in shaders (toggle with the comma key) and 3D skins.
How much RAM does Over Stars need?
For the client, the author recommends 6 GB of RAM (4 GB minimum); for a server we recommend 10 GB. The server has to keep the whole world, every planet and everyone's factories loaded, so it needs more memory than a single game client.

When you launch an Over Stars server on Spot.gg it gets the recommended 10 GB straight away, and you can add more RAM at any time as your bases grow. On the client side, check your launcher's memory setting (CurseForge App, Prism Launcher) – the default is often too low for a pack this size.
How do you play Over Stars with friends?
The easiest way is a server with the Over Stars pack preinstalled: your friends install the same pack version in their launcher and join using the server address. On Spot.gg:
- Create an account and confirm your email – no card needed.
- Click "Activate a free server", choose Minecraft and search for Over Stars (or go straight to the Over Stars modpack page).
- Wait for the install – Forge, the mods and the config are set up for you.
- Copy the server address from the panel and send it to your friends.

Common Over Stars problems and fixes
Most issues come down to a pack version mismatch between player and server, too little RAM, or low FPS with shaders on.

If the server won't start, check the "Errors" tab in the panel or click "Ask the assistant" – the AI assistant reads the server logs and tells you what's wrong. Before updating the pack to a new version, make a backup ("Backup" tab → "Create backup") so you can roll back to a working world if something breaks – backups are available on paid servers.
