What is the Linggango modpack?
Linggango is a hardcore adventure modpack for Minecraft 1.20.1 (Forge), built around class-based combat, strict progression and gear that you unlock by beating bosses. It's made by a solo developer (Misanthropy) and has passed a million downloads on CurseForge.
What's in the box:
- roughly 450–500 hand-tuned mods – the latest build in our catalog has 482,
- character classes, each with its own skill, damage type and drawback,
- 10 Keeper bosses that gate each tier of gear, tech and magic, plus 90+ other bosses (from mods such as Cataclysm, Mowzie's Mobs and Armageddon),
- a real Hardmode once the Ender Dragon is dead,
- 5,800+ quests across 139 chapters that walk you through every mechanic,
- custom world generation with a strong focus on performance.
It's a pack for a long-running world, not a single evening. Linggango has been launched on more than 100 servers at Spot.gg, so we've seen how it behaves in practice.
Which Minecraft version and loader does Linggango use?
Linggango runs on Minecraft Java 1.20.1 with Forge. The pack gets frequent updates (the V6.x line), so the golden rule for multiplayer is simple: the server and every player must run exactly the same pack version.
| Spec | Value |
|---|---|
| Game version | Minecraft Java 1.20.1 |
| Loader | Forge |
| Mods | roughly 450–500, depending on the version |
| Source | CurseForge |
| Bedrock (phone, console) | not supported |
On Spot.gg, the latest Linggango version in our catalog passed our automated start-up test and carries the "Tested" badge in the panel – meaning the server boots with it without any extra configuration.
How do classes work in Linggango?
You pick a class before you spawn – each one has its own active skill, damage type and a real drawback that pays for its strengths. Classes scale with you: they get stronger as you defeat each Keeper.
The number of classes has changed between versions – older releases had 13, while the current CurseForge description lists 18. The pack page doesn't publish the full list of names, so the class selection screen in-game (or the pack's Discord) is the most reliable place to check.
Playing as a group? Pick different classes so you cover more damage types in boss fights.
How does progression work: Keepers, reforging, rings and Hardmode?
Progression is driven by 10 Keeper bosses – each Keeper you kill unlocks the next tier of gear, tech and magic and drops a treasure bag. There's no shortcut to endgame gear; you work through the acts in order.
The key systems:
- Reforging – items can be reforged from Common all the way up to Apex, and tougher areas give better rolls.
- Rings – at the start you choose the "Seven Curses" path, the "Seven Virtues" path, or no rings at all. Each path plays differently.
- Difficulty modifiers – 70+ of them, stackable, with real buffs for harder runs. There's also a preset if you don't want to fiddle with settings.
- Boss assist – according to the developer, every death makes that boss weaker for you, up to 40%, so hard fights stay beatable without becoming a wall.
- Hardmode – killing the Ender Dragon switches on a proper Hardmode, and mob spawns ramp up in stages.
Each act teaches one mechanic before its boss, so following the quest book pays off – especially early on.
How much RAM does Linggango need?
For the client, the developer lists 6 GB as the minimum and 8 GB as recommended; for a server you share with friends, 10 GB is the sweet spot. These are two separate things: the memory you give the game in your launcher, and the memory of the server that runs the world.
| Where | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Client (launcher) | 6 GB | 8 GB (4 GB only with a much lower render distance) |
| Server, a few players | 8 GB | 10 GB |
| Server, bigger group and a large world | 10 GB | 12 GB+ |
On Spot.gg, Linggango is set to a recommended 10 GB, which the server gets as soon as you pick the pack. With 450+ mods and too little memory, the server takes forever to load or never finishes starting. You can change the RAM at any time if you run short.
How do you play Linggango with friends?
The easiest way is a server with the Linggango pack pre-installed – the server sets itself up, and friends join with the same pack version in the CurseForge App. On Spot.gg it works like this:
- Create an account and confirm your email – no card required.
- Open the Linggango pack page and click "Activate with this modpack". We install Forge, the mods and the config for you.
- Copy the server address from the panel and send it to your friends.
- Everyone installs Linggango in the CurseForge App – the same version as the server – and joins via "Multiplayer" → "Add Server".
- Playing only with your group? Turn on the "Whitelist" in the panel and add your friends' usernames.
The first 24 hours are free, and after the trial a modpack server starts at $7.55 / month. For the general walkthrough, see how to make a modded Minecraft server.
How do you update Linggango on your server?
In the server panel go to "Information" → "Modify" → "Update" and choose the new pack version – your world stays. The pack's mods and config files are replaced with the new version, so any changes you made to those files may be overwritten. On a paid server, the panel takes a backup before updating.
After the server update, every player has to update their pack to the same version too. Avoid rolling back to older versions – the panel warns that it can corrupt the map.
Common Linggango problems and fixes
Most issues come down to a version mismatch between player and server, not enough RAM, or launcher settings. The usual suspects:
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Can't join, mod mismatch error | Player's pack version differs from the server's | Select the same Linggango version as the server in the CurseForge App |
| Game won't launch from CurseForge | Launcher settings | The developer recommends enabling the "Mojang Launcher" option in CurseForge settings |
| Crashes on Linux | The Spark mod | The developer recommends disabling Spark on Linux |
| Server loads forever, then shuts down | Not enough RAM | Give the server 10 GB or more |
| Low FPS on the client | Too little memory or too high render distance | Allocate 8 GB to the game and lower the render distance |
If the server refuses to start, check the "Errors" tab in the panel or click "Ask the assistant" – the AI assistant reads the server logs and tells you what's wrong.
Who is Linggango for, and what are good alternatives?
Linggango suits groups who enjoy tough combat, lots of bosses and long, quest-driven progression. If you want something in the same spirit:
- DawnCraft – Echoes of Legends – souls-like combat and dozens of bosses,
- Prominence II: Hasturian Era – story RPG with an NPC city and talent trees,
- RLCraft – the classic hardcore survival pack,
- Beyond Depth – hundreds of biomes, 35+ bosses and Create.
