What is the Dungeon Heroes modpack?
Dungeon Heroes (RPG Series) is a Minecraft RPG modpack built around co-op dungeon crawling, class-based combat and a guided questline. It's made by daedelus_dev and has close to 2 million downloads on CurseForge.
Instead of the usual "punch a tree and figure it out" survival, it plays more like an action RPG: you spawn in a ready-made village, a tutorial walks you through picking a class and using your spells, and the quest book leads you from one dungeon to the next. The author focuses on consistency and quality over sheer mod count, so the pack is beginner-friendly – and it's designed for multiplayer while staying fully playable solo.
Key numbers from the pack description:
| Feature | What you get |
|---|---|
| Classes | 8 playable RPG classes |
| Spells | 60+ interactive spells and 40+ passive abilities |
| Skill tree | 190+ unique skill nodes |
| Dungeons and bosses | 30+ dungeons and 13 boss fights across several dimensions |
| Loot | 400+ items, including legendary weapons and armor inspired by famous RPGs |
You'll find the full description and a one-click server button on the Dungeon Heroes (RPG Series) modpack page.
What Minecraft version and loader does Dungeon Heroes use?
Current releases of Dungeon Heroes run on Minecraft Java 1.21.1 with the Fabric loader. CurseForge also hosts older builds for 1.21 and 1.20.1, but new content – such as the spell expansion and class specializations – lands on the 1.21.1 line.
What that means for you:
- Java Edition only – CurseForge modpacks don't run on Minecraft Bedrock (phones, consoles),
- Fabric, not Forge – any extra mods you add must be Fabric builds for 1.21.1,
- Java 21 – Minecraft 1.21.1 needs Java 21; launchers like CurseForge App, Modrinth App and Prism Launcher usually handle it for you,
- same pack version everywhere – the server and every player need the exact same release (for example 2.7.5), or you won't be able to join.
What classes are in Dungeon Heroes?
Dungeon Heroes has 8 classes based on classic RPG archetypes, including Wizard, Archer, Paladin, Priest, Warrior and Rogue. Each class has its own spell book, and since update 2.6.0 ("The Spell Expansion") you have to choose which spells to unlock at every tier.
The same update introduced specializations, for example:
| Class | Specializations |
|---|---|
| Paladin | Retribution / Protection |
| Archer | Marksman / Naturalist |
| Priest | Holy / Discipline |
| Warrior | Fury / Protection |
| Rogue | Subtlety / Blade |
Every class can earn two sets of epic armor, and the loot system is symmetrical – all classes have roughly the same number of rewards to chase. Skill tree points can be reset and refunded with an Orb of Oblivion, so a bad build isn't permanent.
Party tip: the author recommends that at least one player picks a heavily armored class (Paladin or Warrior). A Priest in a healing role makes early dungeons much smoother too.
How is Dungeon Heroes different from vanilla Minecraft?
The pack rebalances combat and survival so that your class, your dungeon gear and teamwork matter more than grinding diamonds. According to the author:
- hunger drains more slowly, but natural health regeneration is slower too – healers and support classes have a real job,
- critical hits are chance-based, and vanilla jump crits are disabled,
- armor uses a new damage-reduction curve, so stacking armor points (like a full diamond set) is far less effective,
- gear loses durability much more slowly, and anvil repairs are cheaper,
- enchantment slots per item are limited, so you have to make real choices,
- dungeon loot beats crafted gear,
- difficulty and rewards scale by zone.
Shaders come bundled (the author recommends Complementary Unbound, which works with spell effects). Spell hotkeys are mapped for gaming mice with side buttons – if your mouse doesn't have them, reset the spell hotbar keybinds to default in the controls menu.
How much RAM does Dungeon Heroes need?
For a server we recommend 10 GB of RAM – that's what Spot.gg allocates automatically when you launch a server with this pack. The pack ships with 180+ mods and generates plenty of structures and dungeons, so memory fills up quickly once several players spread out across the world.
| Where | RAM |
|---|---|
| Server, 1–4 players | 10 GB (recommended) |
| Server, bigger group or a large, well-explored world | 12 GB or more |
| Player's PC (allocated in the launcher) | about 6–8 GB, closer to 8 GB with shaders |
On your PC, don't give the game more than about half of your system memory – the OS and launcher need some too. Server RAM can be changed at any time in the panel if you run short.
How do you play Dungeon Heroes with friends?
The easiest way is a dedicated server running the Dungeon Heroes pack: share the address, everyone installs the same pack version and joins from the server list. LAN and "Open to LAN" only work while the host is online, and an RPG world full of dungeons grows fast.
On Spot.gg it takes a few minutes:
- Create an account and confirm your email – no card needed.
- Click "Activate a free server", choose Minecraft and search for Dungeon Heroes (RPG Series) – or launch it straight from the modpack page.
- We install Fabric, the mods and the config for you, and set the RAM to this pack's recommended amount right away.
- Copy the server address from the panel and send it to your friends.
- Your friends install Dungeon Heroes in CurseForge App (or another launcher that supports CurseForge packs), pick the same version as the server, then go to "Multiplayer" → "Add Server".
The first 24 hours are free, and a modpack server costs from $7.55 per month after the trial. Playing only with friends? Turn on the "Whitelist" and add their usernames.
How do you form a party in Dungeon Heroes?
Once you're on the server, team up with /team and /ftbteams. Per the author, /team shares some XP between players and /ftbteams shares quest objectives, so you don't each have to complete every quest separately. The author also suggests setting the difficulty to at least Normal.
What are common Dungeon Heroes server problems?
Most issues come down to a pack version mismatch between player and server, too little RAM, or a client-only mod on the server. The "Errors" tab in the server panel lists detected problems, and "Ask the assistant" opens the AI assistant, which reads your server logs and tells you what to fix.
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Player can't join, mod mismatch error | Different pack version on the player's side | Install exactly the version the server runs |
| Server takes forever to start or shuts down | Not enough RAM | Raise RAM to the recommended 10 GB or more |
| Server crashes after adding a mod | Client-only mod (graphics, UI, shaders) or a Forge mod | Remove it from the mods folder in the "Files" tab |
| Lag while exploring new areas | World and structure generation | More RAM; avoid everyone running off in different directions at once |
| Spells don't fire on keypress | Hotkeys mapped to extra mouse buttons | Reset the spell hotbar keybinds in controls |
Want to add your own mods? They must be Fabric 1.21.1 builds – install them from the "Addons" tab or upload the .jar to the mods folder. More in our guide on how to make a modded Minecraft server.

FAQ
Is the Dungeon Heroes modpack free?
Yes, the modpack is free on CurseForge. You only pay for a server if you want one – on Spot.gg the first 24 hours are free, no card required.
What version of Minecraft is Dungeon Heroes on?
Current releases run on Minecraft Java 1.21.1 with Fabric. Older versions of the pack were also released for 1.21 and 1.20.1.
How many classes does Dungeon Heroes have?
Eight, including Wizard, Archer, Paladin, Priest, Warrior and Rogue. Several classes have two specializations, such as Paladin Retribution or Protection.
Can you play Dungeon Heroes solo?
Yes. It's designed for multiplayer, but the author says it's fully playable in single player. Early dungeons are noticeably easier with a party, though.
How much RAM does a Dungeon Heroes server need?
We recommend 10 GB for a server with a few players. For a larger group or a big world, go for 12 GB or more – you can change RAM in the panel at any time.
Does Dungeon Heroes work on Bedrock or mobile?
No. It's a Fabric modpack for Minecraft Java Edition, so you can't run it or join a Dungeon Heroes server from Bedrock (phone, console or Windows Bedrock).
How do I update Dungeon Heroes on my server without losing the world?
In the panel go to "Information" → "Modify" → "Update" and pick the new pack version – your world and files are preserved, and on a paid server you can tick "Make a backup first". After the server is updated, every player needs to update the pack in their launcher to the same version. Big updates can change items and quests, so read the changelog on CurseForge first.
